In the time we've been compiling these rankings, I've never seen a fighter shoot up to #2 after a loss, but #2 Mauricio "Shogun" Rua 's loss to #1 Lyoto Machida at UFC 104 was no ordinary loss. Even though the judges unanimously concluded that Machida won the first three rounds, virtually every observer, including the official judges scored the last two rounds for Shogun. Clearly Rua "solved" the mystery of Machida karate.  

November was supposed to be the most epic month in heavyweight MMA since August. Both #1 Fedor Emelianenko and #2 Brock Lesnar were set to fight. But just as in August, fate intervened and only one of the two titans of the division actually competed.  

"He's in stable condition and should be released soon," White said. Asked if Lesnar was in a Bismarck hospital, White said, "I think he is," but he did not want to say which hospital because he wanted to protect Lesnar's privacy. White said he is encouraging Lesnar to check into the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., for further treatment.

There's been quite a lot of controversy surrounding EA Sports'first entry into the mixed martial arts (MMA) gaming space. Dana White , the head of UFC, has been very outspoken about EA's first MMA offering, reportedly saying that any fighter who appears in the game will be banned from UFC for life and speaking out against EA Sports for doubting the legitimacy of MMA when White pitched the company on a UFC game years ago.
